Just weeks before school is set to end for the summer, nearly 250 educational staff with the York Region District School Board have been told they're losing their jobs ahead of the start of the upcoming school year. According to CUPE 1734, the union was told 249 positions being eliminated, including educational assistants, secretarial and admin staff, 6 tech workers and a few librarians. Government underfunding gets the blame. Just days after appearing at a Montreal Canadiens playoff game, four-time Stanley Cup champion Claude Lemieux has died. The 60-year-old was found by police early yesterday morning at the family's furniture store in Florida. Police believe he took his own life.
