Severe storms across the GTHA caused power outages, widespread flooding. It may even have spawned a tornado near Kitchener. The weather office issued multiple alerts for extreme weather as skies darkened to almost nighttime levels with the intense system bringing torrential rain, large hail and strong winds. There were multiple reports of fallen trees and downed power lines. Hydro One reported 52,000 customers had no power. DVP closed in both directions because of flooding. Pearson Airport had numerous cancellations and delays. Subway service was even suspended on one of Toronto's main lines during the afternoon and evening rush when train cars were flooded and the smell of sewage filled Union Station for hours. Voters head to the polls in three Ontario provincial by-elections today. They're being held in York Simcoe, Scarborough Southwest, and Hamilton Stony Creek. Federal government announced it's extending the 10 centiliter tax break at Canadian pumps through till January. It'll be followed by a three-month phase-in of the tax. And there's been an update on how many Canadians are missing after catastrophic flooding at the Himalayan border. One Canadian citizen unaccounted for has been deemed safe, officials looking for 29 others. More than 1,200 people were killed. 4,200 others are still missing.
