I'm Rob Kirwain and it's Thursday, October the 1st. Police have charged two people accused of defrauding the Ajax FC Soccer Club of more than $650,000. Police in Durham Region say they began the fraud investigation in December 2024 after receiving reports about irregularities in the club's banking transactions. After going through several years of financial statements, police learned funds have been transferred to various accounts from early 2023 to 2024. Police say the two accused, a 50-year-old woman and a 47-year-old man, were employed as the club's executive director and general manager. G20 trade ministers will wrap up two days of talks in Wisconsin later today. Canada's international trade minister was expected to speak informally at some point with US Trade Representative Jameson Greer. The gathering of trade ministers from the world's biggest economies comes amid a global trade disruption caused in large part by America's agenda on trade and tariffs. Minimum wage is going up in Ontario today from $17.60 to $17.95 an hour. The government says the increase will benefit more than 700,000 workers across the province. It says the increase helps ensure wages continue to reflect economic conditions while protecting workers and providing businesses with stability. The annual increase is tied to Ontario's consumer price index at 1.9%. And Joshua Kutrick is just hours away from becoming the next Canadian space traveler. If the weather holds, the 44-year-old astronaut will blast off this morning at 11.10 A.m. Eastern time from the Kennedy Space Center for a six-month mission to the International Space Station. Industry Minister Melanie Jolie will watch the NASA SpaceX launch from the ground in Florida as Kutrick sets off with astronauts from the US and Russia. In sports, damage and Oilers will look to avenge their season opening loss tonight as they visit the Vancouver Canucks in NHL action. Edmonton fell 6-5 in overtime to Vancouver on Tuesday.
