A Mississauga man is facing child luring charges after police allege he used multiple online aliases to arrange meetings with underage victims for sexual purposes. In September of last year, York Regional Police say they began investigating the suspect after he allegedly used various online platforms to meet with youths he believed were under the age of 16. Over a span of seven months, police say he operated under multiple usernames, including Scanner, James Thomas, JPT, and Confessionator. In May, York Region Police were contacted by members of the who were investigating the same suspect for similar allegations and motives. In June, police arrested 52-year-old John Thompson of Mississauga and charged him with several offenses. Prime Minister Mark Carney says there has been substantial progress regarding trade with the US after the US president announced he would delay new tariffs set to hit Canada. Carney says there is still important work to do and that Canada is focused on building a stronger, more independent and more competitive economy at home. The US had threatened to impose 50% levies on roughly $28 billion worth of Canadian goods. Meantime, the Ontario government will spend $10 million on 6 programs to give people training in the skilled trades. Its skills development fund gained notoriety after the province's auditor general found last year that the way the government had been selecting successful applicants was not fair, transparent, or accountable. An investigation into Labour Minister David Pacini was launched after he was accused of breaching ethics rules and handing out the skills training funding.
